A Personal Letter From God

Our society is on the verge of moral collapse.  So many barbaric and perverse things are going on lately that I often dread reading the news reports.  The America I grew up in was decent.  People had respect for life, our laws, lawmakers -- and lawyers were not the brunt of cruel jokes.  A lot has changed in fifty years.  Our culture is now dominated by a post-modern worldview.  In a word, hedonism.  I remember my dear old grandma saying, "America's going to hell in a hand basket."  She was right, but she had no idea how bad it would get.

During the 1940's and 50's and the early 60's the decline in morality had not yet taken hold of our country.  Elvis Presley was king, Sheena was Queen of the Jungle, and Grace Kelly was Princess of Monaco.  Doris Day was the queen of the box office and Rock Hudson the king (who turned out to be a queen).  Families joined together to watch wholesome TV programs like Gun Smoke, Bonanza, The Donna Reed Show and I Love Lucy.  Kids had their own favorites.  Mine were the Mickey Mouse Club, Disneyland, America Bandstand and The Adventures of Spin and Marty.  How could we know that our nation was just beginning its downward spiral into moral bankruptcy? 

I can almost hear you saying, "Marsha, Marsha, Marsha, that was then.  This is now.  Things change. Get a grip, lady!" And here's my response:  You're right.  Things have changed.  But not for the better.  We are in the vice-grip of a powerful enemy.  Compared to him, Nero, who was one of the most evil individuals to ever took up breathing space, was a pussycat. Jesus himself told us that our enemy is, "the prince of the power of the air."   The Apostle Peter called him a roaring lion.  The lion that roars is Satan.  Not surprisingly the Apostle Paul warned Christians to prepare for a daily battle against the evil one.  The enemy we battle is lean and mean, he's a brilliant tactician, and the only treasure he's after are human souls. 

The trouble is, most Americans don't take seriously the deceptive nature of our invisible enemy.  Moreover, they have ignored all the warnings in the Bible against turning to evil and have welcomed it instead. A civilized culture embracing wickedness is nothing new.  Paul wrote to the Roman Christians about it, and warned them that God will turn away from godless nations: "Since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips,
